Taliban hostages rescued after shoot-out
A NORTH American couple held hostage for five years by a Talibanlinked group have been rescued in a shoot-out.
Caitlan Coleman, 31, a US citizen, was snatched to safety along with her husband Joshua Boyle and the three children she bore while in captivity by the Pakistani army.
The rescue mission followed a tip-off by US intelligence that militants from the Haqqani network were bringing the hostages over the Afghan border.
According to the Toronto Star, five kidnappers died in the operation.
Donald Trump yesterday hailed the rescue, saying that the Pakistan government “are starting to respect the United States again”.
The couple were due to be repatriated, but according to NBC, yesterday declined to board an American military aircraft heading out of Pakistan.
A spokesman for the US embassy declined to comment.
