Head ‘saddened’ to ban ‘extremist’ Christians
A SCHOOL head has said he is “saddened” to have to ban a Christian group branded “extremist” from his Church of England primary.
Dan Turvey, of St John’s school in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, had been told by parents that the charity, called Crossteach, had been instructing children about sin at assemblies and told them if they did not believe in God “they would not go to a good place when they died”.
Mr Turvey said he was “deeply saddened” by the severing of relations with the group, but admitted pupils had been “upset and disturbed emotionally”.
He said: “I do not believe Crossteach has done anything wrong. They do not deserve the tarnishing of their good name and allegations of extremism that have taken place.”
Wayne Harris, the national director of Crossteach, said the charity worked with schools while under constant supervision, observing school policies and national guidelines.
