The Queen smiles after being introduced to the Household Cavalry’s new Drum Horse, which she officially named Perseus. As the horse, which carries the rank of major, was officially declared senior to all other animals in the British Army, top, it appeared to take a timely bow, amusing The Queen. She and the Prince of Wales, far left, were conducting a joint engagement at Hyde Park Barracks in Knightsbri­dge. The Queen expressed mock concern for a horse daubed with a white painted skeleton, second left, asking: “Does that come off?” It is used to teach Troopers about the anatomy of their animals.
