Drove all night

Under cover of darkness, the residents of Penrith, Cumbria, packed the streets of the market town for its annual Winter Droving festival. The event celebrates the area’s rich agricultural heritage and the historic tradition of herding animals over long distances to the town’s market. Many of the parade’s masked participants carried flaming torches and huge paper lanterns representing livestock.
