When am I due a marriage sabbatical?

Ihope reports that Louise Redknapp wants to reconcile with her husband Jamie are true. I’ve met them together and apart since the Cabaret star moved out of the family home – and they look far happier together. The 42-yearold has been characteristically honest about how trapped she felt as a full-time mother of two. Taking a break from her marriage to recreate a career and being “selfish” has given Louise back her zest for life, she says – a claim that has prompted both outrage and jealousy. “I had no idea women were allowed to have midlife crises,” growled my friend.

I’m wondering whether the whole thing was more of a “marital sabbatical” – which sounds far more appealing than a midlife crisis. The only sabbatical I’ve ever had was professional – and it kicked off with the nasty realisation that I wasn’t going to get paid. But if I start saving up the money my husband gives me for the hoovering, I should be able to make a break for it in 2032.

Better together: Jamie and Louise Redknapp
