The Gaelic police

-

SIR – As a resident in this beautiful part of Scotland for the past 11 years, I have never come across or heard of a single Gaelic speaker.

Imagine, then, everyone’s surprise when the local constabulary rebranded their vehicle fleet with dual-language signage, both in English (Police Scotland) and in Gaelic (Poileas Alba).

At a time when local police numbers and police stations are under threat an, as yet, unknown amount of the budget is spent on this exercise.

Can anyone explain this decision or is it, as I suspect, another case of total SNP incompetence? Jürgen Daly
