D’oh! Swinson blames Simpson for stereotype

The Daily Telegraph - - News -

Homer Simpson is responsible for reinforcing negative stereotypes about “hapless” fathers, Jo Swinson has said.

The Liberal Democrat deputy leader said the bumbling TV character had played a role in “undermining” men’s roles as fathers, as she spoke during a debate on International Men’s Day.

Speaking during a Westminster Hall debate, Ms Swinson told MPS: “You just look at some of the stereotypes in popular culture, the Homer Simpson type of dads just being hapless, not being able to be up to the job. When men are actually just as capable as women at being parents, there is a myth that women are naturally better at parenting.”
