Revolutionary ‘slow’ advert is all of a spin

- By Anita Singh

FIRST there was slow TV. Now comes the slow advert break.

Channel 4 viewers are to be treated to an entire prime time break offering uninterrupted footage of a washing machine on spin cycle. At three minutes and 20 seconds, it is the longest single shot advert aired in the UK.

The makers, Samsung, say it is designed to demonstrate “how much of our lives slip down the drain as we hang around waiting for things to finish at home”, a problem that could be remedied by purchasing one of their new “quick” washing machines. The film claims that the average Briton spends 88,904 minutes – or 61 days – over a lifetime waiting for a wash to finish.

The spin cycle footage will be shown on Friday night during a break in the Gogglebox broadcast.
