Poppi inquest: police let aunt dispose of evidence
The aunt of Poppi Worthington told the inquest into her death that the police gave her permission to throw away a vital piece of evidence.
Tracey Worthington, whose brother Paul is said to have sexually assaulted his 13-month-old daughter before her death, said she was told by two officers she could throw away the last nappy that Poppi wore. It would later be judged to be a vital piece of evidence, the lack of which meant that the CPS ruled there was insufficient evidence to charge Mr Worthington.
The inquest continues and is due to hear evidence from Mr Worthington, 49, today amid heightened security over fears for his safety.
