UN plea for chil­dren of be­sieged Syr­ian en­clave

Child mal­nu­tri­tion lev­els in Syria’s Eastern Ghouta re­gion, which has been un­der gov­ern­ment siege since 2013, are at the high­est recorded so far in the six-year civil war, Unicef said.

The UN body said a sur­vey in the rebel-held area out­side Da­m­as­cus showed 11.9 per cent of chil­dren aged un­der five had acute mal­nu­tri­tion.
