The blind have been targeted by criminals hacking into the RNIB’S website. Police are investigating the theft of customers’ bank details in the cyber attack.

Up to 817 users on the website may have been affected after the charity’s online shop was breached on Nov 16.

Up to 60 customers have reported fraudulent activity. The RNIB, which supports more than two million people in the UK, was made aware a week after the hack and took another three days to close the breach.

Lord Foulkes of Cumnock, of the select committee on charities, said: “It’s a new low in this whole business.” The identity of the hacker is unknown.
