THE TREND SUPER SEQUINS

- Emily Cronin

Sequins – those tiny metallic discs beloved by queens of disco and drag alike – were so plentiful at the Royal Albert Hall, you’d be forgiven for wondering if the awards were sponsored by the creators of the sparkle enhancing Kira Kira app currently trending on Instagram. Actress Ruth Wilson glittered in a silver Erdem top, Pamela Anderson delivered full-on smoulder in a sequined 16Arlington shirtdress, and no less an eminence than Dame Natalie Massenet came over all girly in red sequined Preen.

But it was Model of the Year Adwoa Aboah who best captured the mood in a mini-dress by sparkle-loving designer (and British Emerging

Talent Womenswear award winner) Michael Halpern. Halpern prescribes sequins the perfect antidote to a lacklustre year. “The world is really sh---right now and it’s a great means of escapism. It’s super-direct. It’s escapism, and that’s it.”
