Gender pay gap in Brexit department worse than at BBC
THE gender pay gap in the Government’s Brexit department is worse than that at the BBC despite the fact it was only set up last year, figures show.
Men at the Department for Exiting the European Union are paid 15.26 per cent more on average than their female colleagues. The BBC disclosed earlier this year that it pays male staff approximately 10 per cent more.
The Government released data yesterday in its first attempt to comply with its own standard – and the Brexit department is not the worst offender.
Men at the Department for Transport are paid 16.9 per cent more than women. At the Department of Health, the gap is 14.2 per cent and at the Ministry of Defence 12.5 per cent.
Zohra Francis, equality officer at the FDA union, said the issue “can only be addressed by a fully-funded pay rise”.
A spokesman for No 10 said: “There is still more to do.”
