‘These are little children and it’s a school nativity play. No one’s going to win an Olivier award’

IT WAS supposed to be bring together parents and their children in Christmas cheer but at one primary school festive merriment at the annual nativity play gave way to scenes of anger.

Vicky Meadows, headmistress of Windsor Clive Primary School, in Cardiff, has been accused of berating her pupils for their “rubbish” acting skills, reducing several to tears.

After praising the children on stage, Mrs Meadows is alleged to have later scolded them for their sub-standard performance and poor concentration. The claims provoked fractious scenes outside the school gates when, according to local reports, police were called by Mrs Meadows after she refused to meet the parents.

The school strongly denies the allegations, but parents took to social media yesterday, where Chris Bewick, 39, claimed Mrs Meadows left the children “devastated” and “crying”. He said: “It was the Christmas nativity but after the parents had gone they were all dragged back and the head told [them] how disgraceful they were. They are little children and it’s a school play. No one’s going to win an Olivier award.”

His comments were echoed by Lee Robinson: “After the first concert, the head said they had done brilliantly. But my son said afterwards they were told that they were absolutely rubbish.”

Cardiff city council said: “Some parents have alleged that pupils were spoken to in an inappropriate manner. The school refutes this.”
