Eric Schmidt departs Alphabet

Eric Schmidt is stepping down from his executive chairman role at Google parent Alphabet and transitioning to a technical adviser position, the internet giant announced last night. Mr Schmidt joined Google as its chief executive in 2001, and has held top positions since, overseeing its restructuring into Alphabet in 2015.
