Johnson ‘winning Cabinet war’
BORIS JOHNSON has claimed he is winning a Cabinet war over Britain’s future outside the EU, as he warned sticking to European regulations after Brexit would be “madness”.
The Foreign Secretary said “a much freer approach” is needed after the UK leaves the bloc by “taking back control of regulatory freedoms”.
His comments come after Cabinet splits emerged over how closely the UK will align itself with EU laws. The decision would have huge implications for how Britain does business. Philip Hammond and Amber Rudd are reportedly keen to see the relationship remain close to maintain access to the single market, while Mr Johnson and Michael Gove want a clean break.
Mr Johnson said: “I think the argument is gaining ground that it really would be madness to leave the EU without taking back control of your regulatory freedoms.”
