Bono still hasn’t found the manly music he’s looking for

-

According to Bono, music has become “too girlie” recently, leaving men with no outlet to vent their anger musically, other than in hip-hop.

“When I was 16, I had a lot of anger in me,” he told Rolling Stone magazine. “You need to find a place for it and for guitars. In the end, what is rock ’n’ roll? Rage is at the heart of it.”

I love the insinuation that men are the only ones who can make music with real, you know, feeling. I’d love to know what the likes of Beyoncé and Adele make of that. But the irony is that the biggest artists making this “girlie” music are… men. Has Bono heard Ed Sheeran, or Coldplay?

Perhaps not all blokes want to rage against the machine every time they pop in their earphones. Perhaps they channel their anger by nipping to HMV, picking up U2’s back catalogue and stamping on it. Just a “girlie” thought, Bono.
