My top 5 beauty bits (that actually work)

-

When I eventually blew the dust off my make-up bag, I found myself in foreign waters. What the hell did I used to do with all this stuff?

I honed in on what was quick to apply and instantly effective. Chanel’s Hydra beauty flash balm (£45, chanel. com) is a wonder. Forget fussing with foundation, this will make any face look alive.

My hair was thrown a lifeline by Kérastase L’incroyable Blowdry Crème (£13.95, allbeauty.com) – slap it on, wave a hairdryer around and you could easily pass for someone who’d

bothered leaving the house to give £30 to a professional to do it for you.

The Marc Jacobs Magic Marc’er Waterproof liquid eyeliner (£23, johnlewis.com) is basically a felt tip, and makes slicking over a perfect line child’s play (and doesn’t budge).

Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge for Lips & Cheeks (£22, bobbibrown.co.uk) is a very good two-for-one and slips handily into a purse (plus there’s a mirror in the compact – so it’s all you’ll need for touch-ups).

Finally, a spritz of something slightly too expensive will always make you feel your fanciest human self. Neroli 36 (£120 for 50ml eau de parfum, lelabofragrance.com) is my current niche favourite.
