Eastern promise

Models parade the creations of veteran designer Pierre Cardin during a show in Beijing, China, last night to celebrate 70 years since he burst on to the fashion scene in Paris. The 95-yearold designer has been staging shows in China for almost 40 years, presenting his first in the Cultural Palace of Minorities in Beijing in 1979 to a select audience from the Chinese fashion industry.
