Bus tragedy

-

Firemen recover passengers from the wreckage of a bus after it collided with a truck and careered off a cliff along a sharply curving road north of the Peruvian capital Lima. At least 48 people were killed, emergency services officials said, in the accident on Tuesday which took place at a spot known as the “devil’s curve” on the Panamericana Norte highway near the area of Pasamayo on the Pacific coast. Six people survived the crash and were being treated for injuries. “For us it is very painful to suffer an accident of this magnitude,” President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski said. The road is only used by trucks and buses, as cars use a different route. It is a dangerous sea-hugging route where fog is a frequent hazard.
