Well supplied with delicious untreated water

-

SIR – Lucy Mangan (Comment, January 6) is not impressed by the craze for raw water, which is a pity.

For the first 25 years of my life I lived in Shropshire and drank only water drawn from our well in the back yard, which was delivered to the house by an electric pump.

This water was superb. It tasted delicious, there were no obvious impurities, it made excellent home-made wine and it had no adverse effects on our health.

When I moved south, tea and coffee never tasted as good.

I shall never drink such water again from my taps, but, whenever I am walking in the hills, I drink from the streams, having made sure there is no dead livestock in the vicinity. Patricia Jagger
