Orchestra director steps down over sex claims
The artistic director of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO) has stepped down after his position became “untenable” over sexual assault allegations.
Charles Dutoit, the world-renowned conductor, had been due to leave in October 2019, but the organisation announced yesterday that the decision had been brought forward because of the historical claims.
Mr Dutoit, 81, denies all allegations, but at an emergency boardroom meeting, the RPO announced his early departure. Four female musicians claim that he assaulted them between 1985 and 2010.
