Don’t forget our burgeoning National Forest
sir – The creation of the Northern Forest is to be welcomed (report, January 8). However, there is also the existing, Defra-sponsored National Forest, which should not be overlooked.
The National Forest is centred on Moira in north-west Leicestershire and covers 200 square miles of the Midlands.
At the Ashby Canal Trust we are engaged in restoring the abandoned length of the Ashby Canal, which was destroyed by mining operations in the last century. On completion, our plan is that the canal will once again connect Moira to the national waterways network and be a true gateway to the National Forest. Geoffrey Pursglove
