Catalonia warned of ‘rule from exile’

Spain warned yesterday that it would maintain its direct control over Catalonia if Carles Puigdemont tried to govern from his selfimposed exile in Belgium.

Speaking in Madrid, Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy said the former regional leader had “to be physically present” in Catalonia to take office. He is the separatist camp’s favoured candidate to lead again following elections.
