Bureaucrat’s treasured Churchill pen for sale
A fountain pen Winston Churchill gave to a hapless civil servant when he was caught without one has emerged for sale for £1,500.
He came to the rescue of the bureaucrat who had to countersign an important government document.
Churchill slid his own pen across the desk to the flustered administrator who immediately signed the paperwork. The premier is then said to have told the young worker: “Have the pen old boy and read before you sign.”
The unnamed worker kept the Mabie Todd Swan fountain pen and now his granddaughter is to sell the item at auction on Feb 1.
