Welsh RSPCA saves 100th seal
RSPCA Cymru has rescued the 100th seal of an “exceptionally busy season” for the charity in the south-west and west of Wales.
The latest seal to be helped was spotted shivering on a Caswell Bay beach in Swansea. It appeared to be in a poor state of health, and the presence of several loose dogs on the beach was a major cause for concern.
RSPCA officers attended and rescued the moulted grey seal pup, which was exceptionally thin.
The incident follows an extremely busy period of seal rescue after the dramatic weather caused by Storms Ophelia and Brian.
Despite the seal breeding season nearing its end, the charity reminds anyone who sees a pup whose mother hasn’t returned for 24 hours, pups on public beaches, or pups that seem to be sick or injured, to contact its 24-hour helpline on 0300 1234 999. Samantha Herbert
