Taking painkillers could ease heartaches as well as headaches, a study found. Women taking over-thecounter drugs such as ibuprofen and paracetamol reported feeling less hurt by emotionally painful experiences, compared with those taking a placebo, researchers at the University of California said. The effect appeared to be the opposite in men, where emotions appeared to be heightened by taking the pills.
