Can women wear the apron in the Freemasons?
SIR – I read with interest the appeal from the chief executive of the United Grand Lodge of England to stop his members “feeling undeservedly stigmatised” (report, February 8).
I note he said the organisation welcomes people from “all walks of life, of any race, faith, age, class or political persuasion”. Gender, however, is not mentioned.
In the week we celebrate 100 years of votes for women, if the Grand Lodge wants equality of treatment, it needs to state whether women are accepted into its ranks. Stella Currie

SIR – I am sorry to criticise the assertions of an organisation
I hold in great regard, but it is disingenuous of the Freemasons to say it welcomes all.
They discriminate against me, and many others, by their insistence that candidates for membership profess a belief in a supreme being.
