One of the most memorably pretty Oscar dresses of all time is the candyfloss pink Ralph Lauren gown that Gwyneth Paltrow wore to accept her Best Actress Oscar in 1999 and Saoirse Ronan’s strikingly beautiful Calvin Klein creation seemed like a modern riff on that classic. (“No one is complaining about a pretty dress, but that isn’t always the most memorable choice you can make,” Ronan’s stylist Elizabeth Saltzman told The Daily Telegraph recently.) It seemed to nod to a more visually innocent time. Meanwhile, Rita Moreno, the 86-yearold West Side Story actress, wore the same gown she had chosen to accept her Best Supporting Actress award in 1962. Had she lost the gloves, it would have looked just right for now.
