Europe wants £2.4bn of clothes fraud duty

Britain must pay £2.4billion of duty on cheap Chinese shoes and clothes or face legal action in the European Court of Justice and potentially huge fines.

The European Commission yesterday issued the demand, accusing British authorities of turning a blind eye to fraud in UK ports. It said the value was under-reported by importers to minimise the duties due.
