M25 rapist dies in prison while waiting for parole decision

- By Stephen Walter

ANTONI IMIELA, the M25 rapist, who carried out a series of sex attacks on victims as young as 10, has died, it emerged last night.

Imiela passed away aged 63 at Wakefield prison yesterday. He was jailed in 2004 and given seven life sentences for the rape of nine women and girls, eight of which occurred in just one year.

In 2012, he received a further 12 years after his DNA matched the suspect in an unsolved 1987 sex attack.

However, days after it was first reported that John Worboys, the “black cab rapist”, was eligible for parole in January, it emerged that Imiela had also been referred for parole, 14 years on from his detention.

The Prison Service confirmed Imiela’s death, which is not being treated as suspicious. He was reportedly suffering from heart problems.

A spokesman said: “HMP Wakefield prisoner Antoni Imiela died in custody on Thursday March 8 2018.

“As with all deaths in custody, there will be an independent investigation by the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman.”

Imiela, a railway worker who was born in West Germany to a Polish father and German mother, emigrated with his family to the United Kingdom at the age of seven.

He became known as the M25 rapist because many of his sex attacks happened near the motorway. His crimes took place in Surrey, Kent, Berkshire, London, Hertfordshire and even Birmingham.
