Lawyer is attacked outside Parliament bar

A lawyer who works as deputy counsel to the joint committee on statutory instrument­s, a group of MPS and peers that scrutinise­s secondary legislatio­n, was allegedly beaten up outside a bar at the Houses of Parliament.

Ronald Freeman, 56, allegedly attacked Peter Brooksbank, 63, after a row erupted at the Sports and Social Bar and spilt into the street.

Mr Freeman appeared at Westminste­r Magistrate­s Court charged with assault causing actual bodily harm. He pleaded not guilty and will be tried by a jury at Southwark Crown Court.
