Flexible visits for dementia carers – plea

-

 Hospitals should make it easier for carers of dementia patients to stay with their loved one outside visiting hours, the WI has said.

A report by the National Federation of Women’s Institutes (NFWI) concluded that dementia patients were “suffering unnecessarily” while being cared for in hospitals across England and Wales. A survey of 250 dementia carers found that just 38 per cent were able to visit their loved one outside normal visiting hours.

The NFWI called for all hospital providers to make it easier for carers to stay with family members outside normal visiting hours, including having flexible or open entry and enabling carers to assist at mealtimes.
