War crimes appeal by the Butcher of Bosnia
Ratko Mladic, the former Bosnian Serbian commander, last night appealed against his convictions for genocide and war crimes, urging UN judges to acquit him on all charges.
Mladic, known as the Butcher of Bosnia, was given a life sentence in November for his role in the Balkans war, including the 1995 Srebrenica genocide of more than 8,000 Bosnian Muslims – Europe’s worst bloodshed since the Second World War.
