Chinese solutions

-

SIR – I am startled at the report “China warns opponents they face bloody battle” (March 21). It distorts the speech of President Xi and ignores China’s peaceful development.

The part of President Xi’s speech regarding China and the world admits that the world we live in is full of hope and full of challenges. It goes on to stress that the Chinese people have always had a sense of justice and compassion, have regarded their destiny and future as closely tied to that of the people around the world, and have stood ready to do their utmost to contribute to the peace and development of humanity.

China will continue to hold high the banner of peace, development, co-operation and mutual benefit, and unswervingly pursue peaceful development and a mutually beneficial strategy of opening-up. China will seek to contribute Chinese wisdom, Chinese solutions and Chinese strength to the world, to push for building an open, inclusive, clean and beautiful world that enjoys lasting peace, universal security, and common prosperity. The future China envisages for the world is a community with a shared future for all mankind.

This sincere wish of the Chinese people and China’s down-to-earth action to contribute to the peace and development of humanity should not be misinterpreted. China-watchers should replace presumptuous speculation and arbitrary defamation, if any, with a positive, healthy and peaceful approach to China’s work for greater mutual trust in the world.
