Great Ormond Street in Presidents’ cash U-turn

Great Ormond Street Hospital has performed a U-turn and will keep £530,000 raised by the Presidents Club for its cause over several years.

The charity originally pledged to return the money following newspaper allegations about the behaviour of guests at a black-tie dinner run by the Presidents Club which alleged waitresses were groped.

But a spokesman for the London children’s unit said yesterday it had reversed its decision after feedback from supporters and talks with the Charity Commission. He said: “Our thinking is guided by our aim to maximise the support we give to the hospital and the families it cares for.”
