Will May split the Tories?

-

Theresa May risks splitting the Tory Party in two if she does not stick to her “red lines” on Brexit, Jacob Reesmogg has warned.

In a speech to mark the beginning of Britain’s final year as a member of the EU, Mr Reesmogg, the chairman of the European Research Group, compared the Prime Minister to Sir Robert Peel, whose defiance of his own party over the Corn Laws splintered the Tories and brought down his government.

When Mr Rees-mogg was asked how confident he was that Mrs May will not sell out the UK over “red lines” in the final Brexit deal he replied: “Let’s be frank: all the red lines have gone. The concern is will the red lines be there in the final agreement.”
