Idris Elba has mined his childhood in east London in the Eighties for this new family comedy, with an excellent cast bringing warmth and wit to a coming-of-age tale. Elba, in particular, has a ball as harassed father Walter, who spends the opening episode dealing with the arrival from Sierra Leone of his exuberant younger brother Valentine (Jimmy Akingbola) – who has been sent over by their mother so that Walter can straighten him out.
