Poppi officer becomes chief constable
A senior police officer criticised by the official watchdog over the Poppi Worthington case is formally to become chief constable of Cumbria Police this weekend.
Michelle Skeer was criticised by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) over the Cumbria force’s response to the 13-month-old child’s death in 2012.
But John Woodcock, Labour MP for Barrow and Furness, condemned the appointment amid calls for a public inquiry. Mrs Skeer responded by vowing to restore the “tarnished image” of the force.
