Curtains pulled down in West End after gas leak

Performances at theatres in London’s West End were cancelled last night after a gas leak.

People were evacuated from nearby locations after emergency services attended a leak in St Martin’s Lane shortly after 6pm.

The English National Opera cancelled a performance of La Traviata at the Coliseum, and Quiz at the Noel Coward Theatre was also called off.

The Metropolitan Police said officers were called out at 6.02pm on Tuesday evening.

A spokesman said: “No one was injured. There have been few nonresidential evacuations.”
