Happy solution

SIR – Some viewers have complained that they will have forgotten the plot twists of Ordeal by Innocence, the BBC’S new Agatha Christie adaptation, by the time the next instalment airs (report, April 3).

Several years ago, my friends and I were gripped by an adaptation of the PD James novel The Black Tower, shown in six weekly episodes. The final hour-long episode was to be shown at nine o’clock on a night when I had organised a PTA dance which all the friends would be attending.

This was before iplayer and none of us owned a video recorder. My solution was to buy the book and read the last few chapters the night before. I was thus able, at 10 o’clock the following evening, to inform the other attendees “whodunnit”. Mary Ross
