Hurrah! Emily has binned her scales – so should everyone

Total rubbish: Emily Maitlis shared what happened to her scales when her husband got his hands on them

-

Emily Maitlis has tweeted a picture of her bathroom scales – in the bin. “Most satisfying gesture of the week,” she captioned it, adding later that her husband had removed the offending item. “Just don’t stand on them,” he said.

There are some scales now that are so advanced they can actually tell you the weight of your soul. Mount them for a couple of seconds and they’ll calculate how vanishingly small your self-esteem is.

I’ve realised that weight is not really an accurate portrayal of health. I know women who don’t look a slip over a size 10 who tell me they are 13st.

Anyway, who cares what you weigh as long as you eat well and do regular exercise?

I will run the London marathon next week in my underwear to prove that fitness is for everyone.

I’m raising money for Heads Together, a mental health initiative. If you fancy sponsoring me on my run, you can go to uk. virginmoney giving.com/ gutsygirls
