Leave.eu fined £70,000 over campaign spending
Brexit campaign group Leave.eu has been fined £70,000 and its chief executive referred to police over spending during the EU referendum campaign, the Electoral Commission has announced. The group, co-founded by Arron Banks, failed to include £77,380 in its returns, taking it 10 per cent over the limit for non-party groups. Mr Banks said: “We view the Electoral Commission announcement as a politically-motivated attack on Brexit and the 17.4million people who defied the establishment to vote for an independent Britain.”
