Mourners line streets to bid Alfie Evans farewell

-

Several hundred people lined the streets outside Everton football stadium yesterday for the funeral of 23-month-old Alfie Evans.

They broke into respectful applause as the cortege passed Goodison Park en route to a private burial in Liverpool.

Last month, doctors at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital stopped providing life-support treatment for Alfie after his parents, Tom Evans and Kate James, lost fights in the High Court, Court of Appeal, Supreme Court and European Court of Human Rights.

They had hoped to take Alfie, who had a degenerative brain disease, to a hospital in Rome for treatment.
