ANDREW MORTON, the royal biographer, was taken to hospital yesterday after suffering a suspected stroke.

The 65-year-old reportedly collapsed midway through a talk in London promoting his latest book Wallis In Love: The Untold True Passion Of The Duchess Of Windsor and told the audience: “I’m sorry, I can’t go on.”

A spokesman for his publisher, Michael O’mara Books, said: “He became unwell this afternoon, he’s been taken to hospital as a precautionary measure.”

Morton, who is best known for an explosive biography on Diana, Princess of Wales 25 years ago, later took to Twitter to clear up what happened.

“Thank you for all of your good wishes – seems that I had a mini stroke, but am doing well and on the mend,” he said. He was reportedly being treated at University College hospital. Morton’s latest book is Meghan: A Hollywood Princess, a biography of Ms Markle who marries Prince Harry on Saturday.

He is due to help present ABC’S coverage of the royal wedding this weekend.

A source told The Sun: “He forgot what he was saying, was sweating and started to sway.

“He ended up getting carted off from The Strand in the back of an ambulance and taken to UCLH. People are saying it’s a suspected stroke.”

The unexpected illness meant he also pulled out of talking at a second event at Waterstones in Chelsea last night, as the bookshop tweeted: “Due to unforeseen circumstances, we have been forced to cancel the Andrew Morton event this evening.

“Please accept our sincerest apologies. We are offering refunds to all ticketholders so do pop in. Many thanks.”

Morton rose to fame writing Diana: Her True Story, which was revised after her death.

It was based on hours of taped interviews, which were secretly made in Kensington Palace in 1991 through an intermediary.

He has also authored books on the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Monica Lewinsky and Victoria and David Beckham.
