London pint is the dearest in the land

-

A pint of beer is now almost twice as expensive in London as in some other parts of the UK, a study has found.

The average price of a pint in the capital is £5.19, compared with £2.35 in Carlisle, £2.60 in Chelmsford and £2.75 in Newport, south Wales, research by Money Guru, the price comparison firm, showed.

Other cities with steep prices included Oxford (an average of £4.57 a pint), Edinburgh (£4.35), Bristol (£4.32) and Winchester (4.30). Cheaper prices could be found in Armagh (£2.78) and Salisbury (£2.80), said the report.

James Macdonald of Money Guru, said: “It’s eye-opening.”
