Mousemats to help doctors spot cancer
Britain has one of the lowest cancer survival rates in Europe but a mousemat could help GPS make earlier diagnoses. Researchers from the University of Exeter worked out a scoring system to establish the risk of cancer shown by certain combinations of symptoms, such as a cough combined with weight loss, and turned their findings into a table printed on mousemats, which doctors can have on hand to see if common symptoms in combination spell danger. The table has also been created into software, used by around 1,000 GP surgeries in the UK.
