Police want sweet-stealing gang to get just desserts
POLICE are hunting sweet-toothed thieves who stole £100,000 of Smarties, Rolos and Mars Bars from a confectioners in Loughborough.
Leicestershire Police have issued CCTV footage of the raid at Hancocks Confectioners, which supplies a large variety of sweets produced by Mars, Nestlé, Cadbury and Haribo.
Seven thieves stole three trailerloads of sweets from the depot in Hockey Close. Michael Boening, general manager for the depot, said: “The three trailers were all fully loaded and ready to be taken out the next day for deliveries.”
A Leicestershire Police spokesman confirmed that a total of £100,000 worth of confectionery was stolen within the three units.
“Two trailers are still outstanding, one of which has the Kingsway Confectionery motif on the side,” he said.
Pc Michael Hinton, the investigating officer, has appealed for help from members of the public.
“We know seven people were involved in this crime and not only did they steal a substantial value of property, they caused significant damage to the vehicles in doing so, adding to the inconvenience and cost to the business,” he said.
“Have you been approached by someone selling Kingsway confectionery in suspicious circumstances?”
Hancocks Cash & Carry started life as a sweet shop in Shepshed, Leicestershire, in 1962 and was run by husband and wife Ray and Liz Hancock.
