Lib Dem: It’s transphobic to call Soham killer ‘Ian’
Calling the Soham murderer Ian Huntley is transphobic because he now reportedly goes by the name “Lian”, a Liberal Democrat policymaker has said.
Alisdair Calder Mcgregor said it was wrong to “deadname” Huntley, who is serving a minimum of 40 years for murdering two 10-year-old girls in 2002. Deadnaming refers to the practice of calling transgender people by their original name when they have either legally changed it or stated their desire to be known by another.
Mr Mcgregor made the remarks during a debate on Twitter over the Lib Dem’s manifesto commitment on transgender prisoners.
