Tube station evacuated after small explosion

-

A minor explosion led to a mass evacuation at a London Underground station last night.

The Met Police said five people were injured by the blast at Southgate station shortly after 7pm, as witnesses on social media claimed to have seen one person leave the station on a stretcher. A small number of people were treated at the scene, the British Transport Police said.

The explosion was understood to have been caused by a battery short circuit of a power drill, police said last night. A Met Police spokesman said: “Police were called to reports of an explosion and people running at Southgate Underground station.”
